Local races this summer

Today is July 4th but the Keene 4 on the 4th is cancelled. (sigh…). Ted’s 4 on the 4th is one of the most festive local races of the summer. The Betty Pels Run for the Honey in Hancock is cancelled. Marlborough Mad Dash was cancelled.

Alas, COVID-19 continues to prevent local races. With the number of COVID-19 cases rising across the country, local running races are an unnecessary risk.

Racing in a 5K is good training. Personally, I have found without competing in regular local 5k races, my cardio and lung VO2 has decreased. Without our local 5k races, I found I need to do more HIIT. I am trying to follow Coach Smith’s virtual Wednesday Night Workouts at least once a week.

I also miss the variety that local 5K races offer. Getting in your car and driving to another local town to just run there is an option. I find that hard to do when alone but it helps to keep training from getting stale. So, get out there and run, change it up, try Coach Smith’s vWNW training!

BREAKING NEWS: The Sub5 racing team is conducting a summer series of races in Rindge/Jaffrey on Thursday nights. The races will be ‘waved’ starts and socially distanced. See our MRM race calendar for details.
