The Peter Michael Abbott Memorial Fund was founded in 2010 as a non-profit, volunteer-led organization in the wake of Peter's untimely death. It was Peter's selfless spirit and empathy for others that touched so many people he encountered. Although the hole created by his absence can never be filled, his family has created something positive in his honor. And so, the Peter Michael Abbott Memorial Fund was created to raise funds for an annual academic scholarship to be awarded to graduating male and female students from Contoocook Valley Regional High School pursuing advanced education in an accredited institution, as well as, provide modest financial support to selected organizations of the larger Monadnock community. Also, to raise community health awareness and to socialize the 5K+ Run and Fitness Walk as a way to invest in people and bring the Monadnock community together.

The annual Peter Michael Abbott Memorial 5K+ Run and Fitness Walk and Benefit Concert are the main mechanism to achieve these goals.
