From the President (By Becka Lyons)

January, the time for all of the “New Year, New Me” propaganda. I don’t know about anyone else, but the short days and cold nights don’t exactly scream “let’s get this party started!” I am more of a hunker down, find rest & restoration, and build a solid foundation kind of person…so that when the warm weather makes its appearance in April (or May, or June - we do live in NH afterall…) I am fully ready to tackle the long days, warm nights, late dinners, and big adventures that go with it!

So, if you aren’t feeling all hyped up for the New Year, know you are in good company. If you were a patient of mine, I’d be preaching consistency over perfection. Move your body daily, but don’t worry if it is foundational miles, strength training, yoga, swimming, skating, skiing. The reality is, it all adds up. It all keeps you moving forwards, and it’s all better than sitting on the couch and doing nothing - although a little of that is good for the soul too!

The Winter Chillers are coming and I think the reason they are a top favorite among Milers is that they help us find consistency and motivation in a season that can be challenging to do so. I am looking forward to seeing you all out there, hitting your stride and enjoying the company of others in a time that otherwise has us all cozied up at home:)

First Chiller on the 18th!

Becka Lyons

The other co president Becka Lyons has been running since the 5th grade, joining the high school cross country team in the 7th grade to be coached by Mike Smith when the middle school team didn’t have enough participation. Under Smith, Becka learned not only the ins and outs of running and won the 2006 Division 3 XC Championship Team title, but also all of the life skills that go with it; perseverance, goal setting, determination, and grit just to name a few. It would be those life skills that carried her from Mascenic Regional High School onto Quinnipiac University to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy and eventually open her own PT clinic with her husband, Elevation Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab in Peterborough, NH. Combining her passions for running and therapy, Becka held the Assistant Coach position for all things running at Mascenic for the last 4 years, bringing home both a boy’s and girl’s Division 3 team titles (only other Girl’s title since 2006!). When not at Elevation PT, Becka is usually found on the trails with her husband and black lab, gardening, or curled up with a book and a cup of tea.
